The Antibiotic Prescribing in the Hospitalized Patient course aims to provide knowledge on prescribing practices of commonly encountered infectious diseases in the hospitalized patient. This course will take a deep dive into various antibiotics and their drug classes, the mechanism of activity, and the spectrum of activity using a case-based approach. The course will conclude with each participant developing their own antibiotic toolkit.Â
Course Objectives
- Identify general characteristics of antibiotic prescribing.
- Identify the most common pathogens that result in specific bacterial infections (e.g., pneumonia).
- Discuss the drug, drug class, mechanism of action, and spectrum of activity for the various antibiotics.
- Practice appropriate antibiotic prescribing for various bacterial infections.
- Create your own personal antibiotic toolkit.
